Summary: Aubrey Postolakis
When the fifth part started Alice was still in the mental hospital and she was beginning to get used to life there. She started talking to people to learn everyone’s experiences and what landed them there because when she grows up she decided she wanted to help people in this situation. When her parents came to visit her they said that the girls who gave her LSD said that she sold drugs where taking away that statement. Alice began to get hopeful that she would soon go hope. Finally Alice got the news that she was going home and once she got home it was summer and she was welcomed home. When she was home her she went on a family trip and started making friends with people from the right crowd. Then for her birthday her parents surprised her with a visit from Joel who wrote her a ten-page letter saying that even though everything she’s done he still loves her and understands. The book ends with Alice starting school again in September and her deciding to not write in her diary anymore and to talk out her problems. The epilogue said that three weeks later Alice was found dead in her house having overdosed and without her parents knowing if it was suicide or murder.

Assignment Question
After reading “Go Ask Alice”, I think that this book should be apart of the school’s curriculum I know that it has some topics in it that might not be school appropriate. But this book effectively gets the point across of how dangerous drugs are and it shows are of the situations that Alice is in and how she gets out. I would definitely recommend this book. It really makes you think about who she was, what led her to doing everything she did, and if that could happen to someone around you?

Week 4

Quotes: Jennifer Pallatta
Well, at least I'm not burned out and I'm not preg.
I sat on the porch and just kept looking at them. It was revelation! Without drugs!
I hope he didn't notice the tears in my eyes, because I so much want to do that!
Oh diary, forgive me. I am trying so hard to have a positive outlook, but I can't
It's terrible not to have a friend.

While she knows if she was locked in a room with all the drugs in the world she wouldn’t use any of it. At the end of this part Alice wakes up badly injured in the hospital so to be sent to a mental institution.

Assignment Question

I feel like in “Go Ask Alice”, the themes are life lessons that can teach you so much more than a theme from a book where the author is writing about someone else’s feelings because no one can know exactly how you feel. It’s Alice writing down her own exact feelings in detail. Her diary was the only person she was completely honest with. The description in her writing makes you mentally picture what she is going through every step of the way. You feel like you are in her shoes going through it yourself.

Week 3

Discussions Questions
1. why did she go to the church ?
2. what did going to the church and talking to the priest lead to ?
3. why does she travel so much?
4. do you think her diary is getting through all her problems?
5. why is there question marks at the top of each diary entries?

Summary
Alice was caught with drugs and now her family is watching her all the time without giving her a second of space. When they go to sleep one night she decides she will just take a little, but her next diary entry she is in Denver without a home. From here on instead of dates there are just question marks. At some point she goes to a church to ask the priest for help, but leaves. As Alice wonders around she meets some people who have drug connections, but once those fall through and she is completely out. She winds up at a rally where there is endless drugs and alcohol. After hearing that people died at the rally from overdosing she goes back to the priest and asks for them to call her parents and take her home.

Quotes
1.) “Like here I am in Denver. When I was high I just walked out and hitch-hiked here, but now it seems crazy quiet and unreal, maybe that’s because it’s still early.”
2.) “The rally itself was great, acid and booze and pot as free as the air.”
3.) “A raindrop just splashed on my forehead and it was like a tear from heaven.”
4.) “Or will I spend the rest of my life feeling like a walking disease????”
5.) “None of the kids think I’m going to stay off, because most of those who’ve been busted before are just being more careful and discreet.”

Assignment Question
This book goes from having a very uplifting happy feeling to a very dark and depressing tone. At certain times Alice will be very happy and she is finally content with where she is, but then something will happen bringing her back down again. For example, she was doing well and someone slipped her LSD, which wound her up in a mental institution all alone. The descriptions of that part made you feel depressed. Then when her dad got her out she was celebrating her birthday and she saw her boyfriend that understood her completely. At that part you felt so uplifted that everything was going her way.

Week 2

They start to become best friends and really close because thy understand each other and they both do drugs. At the beginning of the book Alice had no friends, but since she became friends with Chris, she is no one of the most popular girls in school. She then started to push drugs for him in high school, then she found out that he was gay, and she stopped pushing him. Chris and Alice went to California, and they wanted to start a new life there and be drug free. One of the bosses has a party and invites them, and he gives them drugs and then he rapes them. Then they open their own boutique and then they go back home because Alice misses her family. And their lives suck their so Chris and Alice went back home.

Assignment Question: Aubrey Postolakis

“Go Ask Alice”, is written from Alice’s point of view. Which makes it different from most other books that I have read. It is really easy to read because she wrote it like she was talking to a friend, which she considered the diary to be. There isn’t much conversation it’s mostly her going over what happened and explaining how she felt and why it was significant. Her writing is very descriptive so you feel like you are actually there in that situation. I think that the reading level is for about a sophomore, it isn’t the reading level exactly its more of what she is talking about.

Quotes
1. “Wow! I’m really living! I have a job. Chris asked her boss last night and he said yes. Isn’t that the greatest?!”
2. “She’s been using drugs for over a year and I’ve been on since July 10 to be extact.”
3. “Chris and I are lucky that both our shops are closed on Sundays and Mondays so we have our two free days together.”
4. “Smack is a great sensation, different from anything I’d ever had before. I felt gentle and drowsy and wonderfully soft like I was floating above reality and the mundane things were lost forever in space.”
5. “Why didn’t we do this weeks, months, centuries ago? Stupid us!”

Week 1
Discussion Questions
  1. Why did Alice move?
  2. Why is she happy about moving?
  3. Does she make friends in her new school?
  4. Who is Roger?
  5. When Alice’s friend came back why was she different?

Quotes
1. “Oh, diary, I’m so happy I could cry! It did happen! Jill called at exactly 10:32.
2. “Dear close. Intimate, friend dairy.”
3. “Oh dear Diary, I’m sorry I’ve neglected you, but I’ve been so busy.
4. “It’s my birthday. I’m 15. Nothing.
5. “School was a nightmare.”

Summarizer
Today we discussed what diary entries we had read in the book. Our book is about a troubled teen named Alice who is 15 years old. This is based off a real girl, and he diary was published. Throughout the diary entries she talks about how hard it is to be a 15 year old girl and deal with everything that is going on. She had to move houses and get all new friends, which did not work out too well. But she did end up making some new friends and experiencing many many interesting things. She does many advanced things for her age i would have to say. She's taking up drinking, and starting to do drugs such as weed, and speed, and even LSD.

We find her to be troubled and like out of place almost. At this age she should be having fun, and hanging out with friends and doing well in school. She isn't like most 15 year old's. The journal entries she writes are not long but they're very detailed. And some entries are longer than others. So far we thing the book is good becasue it's like keeps you on the edge of your seat almost with everything that she does. Liek one moment she's on a date and the next she's doing drugs. Its very fast paced and it's not a boring book to read. We cant wait to see what happens at the end.
